Gavin Wye (0827) – Crossed the Bar

Crossed the Bar

Andrew Armstrong sadly reports:
During the Christmas and New Year period we lost two dear friends Gavin (0827) and Dorothy Wye. Gavin passed away shortly before Christmas after a long illness and then Dorothy subsequently passed away in a care home just before New Year. Gavin and Dorothy have been attending our Sunday lunch functions for a number of years now after Gavin discovered the RFA Association by accident while attending the funeral of a MN Motorman. Gavin served as an Engineering Officer in the RFA during the late 50s and early 60s sailing on RFA Reliant. He served his apprenticeship in Rosyth Dockyard. Laterally Dorothy was not able to travel, however Gavin still came along despite his illness and indeed he was at our last lunch in Kelso. Before he passed, Gavin asked me if it would be possible for his daughter Mandy to attend one of our lunches, so I am hoping this can happen at our next lunch in March.

There will be a combined funeral service on 25th Jan at St Cuthberts Episcopal Church Colinton Edinburgh at 1130 followed by cremation at Mortonhall Crematorium at 1300. If anyone is able to attend and represent the Association, they will be very welcome. RIP
