Crossed the Bar

First Officer (Supply) Barry Deller RFA(Retd)

1950 – 2013

It is with so much sadness that I  announce that First Officer (Supply) Barry Deller  Crossed the Bar on Tuesday 15th October after a long battle with cancer so bravely borne. He was 63.

Barry’s funeral will take place at Wessex Vale Crematorium, Bubb Lane, West End, Southampton, SO30 2HL (HERE for the website, HERE for a Map) on Thursday 31 October at 11:30 and afterwards at The Fox and Hounds, Hungerford, Bursledon, Southampton, Hampshire, SO31 8DE, (HERE for the website, HERE for a Map). Old shipmates and colleagues will be most welcome to attend.

Family flowers only please but donations in lieu and if desired, should be made to Cancer Research, Macmillan Cancer Support  or Marie Curie Cancer Care.

On behalf of the RFA Association I extend our sincere condolences to his widow Lynn,daughters Vicky and Tricia,  son Martin and three grandchildren.

Barry’s brother Rod, also a Supply Officer has sent this short history:-

Barry (Baz) Deller spent 42 years, man and boy, in the RFA. His first RFA ship was REGENT which he joined in 1966 in Belfast as a Catering Boy. His last ship was MOUNTS BAY which he left in March 2008 on taking early retirement. During those 42 years he served on numerous ships in various grades and ranks.

Baz started his RFA career as a Catering Boy progressing through to Steward, Catering Storekeeper and then Second Steward. In the late 1970’s he became an Assistant Purser, then Purser finishing his career as First Officer Supply, now LSO.
