It is with so much sadness I report that Captain John Crawford Moffat RFA(Retd) crossed the bar on Wednesday 9th December 2015 aged 87.
Old shipmates and colleagues will be made most welcome at the crematorium service but given the proximity to Christmas Day there will not be a wake.
His wife Joan pre-deceased him in November 2015
I have no more details at the moment but I will sitrep this page in due course
On behalf of the RFA Association I offer our sincere condolences to his son Richard all his family.
If you have any remembrances of John please email it to me at email@example.com and I will post them on this page. I am also looking for photographs of John for this piece and the RFA Association Gallery and Archive, If you have one please email it to me.
Pat Thompson writes:- I sailed with John in Tidepool in 1973 when I was Second Officer. John, for some reason got it into his head that I was a “wiz” when it came to motor cars. One evening, whilst on OFJ Gosport he asked me to drive his wife home and gave me the keys of his pride and joy, a white Rover 3500. This of course I did, returning to the ship and returning the keys to him on my return. The following morning I was called to his cabin and was informed that his wife had said I was a most considerate and careful driver and there was Bravo Zulus all round. The truth was that on the return journey I “Drove it like I stole it” …. boy did I have fun.
