SURG CH. OFFICER CHARLES FISHER MD, RFA(RETD) (134)

Crossed the Bar

Sitrep 1, Photographs

Sitrep 2. Some career Details

It is with so much sadness that I report that Surgeon Chief Officer Charles Fisher MD RFA (Retd)  Crossed the Bar on 7th May 2021 aged 94. Charles was not a member of our Association but was, of course, a member of our RFA family.

Charles had a full career as a GP with the NHS and served for about 6 years with the RFA as a Surgeon Chief Officer until his final retirement.Alongside his NHS career, he held the rank of reservist Surgeon Lieutenant Commander with HMS Eaglet, but carried out those activities for RMR Merseyside

Interestingly, before becoming a GP, he and his wife, Shirley went to Australia in 1958 as “ten pound Poms” and he worked as a GP in Melbourne and as a Flying Doctor in Derby, Western Australia.

On behalf of the RFA Association I offer our sincere condolences to his wife, Shirley (who predeceased him), his 3 children Guy, Tracey and Judy and three grandchildren.

There will be no formal funeral as it was Charles’ wish that his body be should be donated to medical science at Liverpool University.

If you have any remembrances of Charles please email it to me at captain.pat@rfaa.uk and I will post them on this page. Alternatively you can post to our facebook page “RFA Crossed the Bar”. I am also looking for photographs of Charles for this piece and the RFA Association Gallery and Archive, if you have one please email it to me.
