Scottish Merchant Navy Memorial Wreath Laying 2012

On Sunday 18th November Mrs Hilda Johnston and Captain Mike Ashworth attended the annual service for Scottish Seafarers in Leith Parish church which was led by the incumbent Minister, the Rev Iain May who is a former RFA Officer. Readings were given by The Lord Provost of Edinburgh (whose titles include Admiral of the Port Of Leith), a Senior Master of Trinity House and other members of the maritime community.

On completion of the church service we adjourned to the Scottish Merchant Navy Memorial at Tower Place in Leith for the wreath laying ceremony. Once the Edinburgh and Leith High Constables had formed a Guard of Honour around the Memorial the Lord Provost and Minister arrived. After a hymn, prayers and a pipers Lament, played by the grandson of Professor Gordon Milne who was the driving force behind the erection of the Memorial, the wreaths were laid. Hilda had the honour of laying the wreath on behalf of the RFA Association and I laid a wreath on behalf of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners.
