LANCE CPL JAMES ASHWORTH AWARDED A VC.

General News

It has been announced this morning (16 March 2013) that Grenadier Guardsman Lance Corporal James Ashworth has been posthumously awarded the Victorial Cross. The soldier died in a grenade blast during a ferocious battle with the Taliban last June.

He was on foot patrol and battling his way through compounds against determined enemy fighters when he was fatally wounded in Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand. His comrades in arms spoke of his incredible bravery far beyond the call of duty. The RFA Association offers sincere condolences to his family for their loss and bitter sweet congratulations to them for the award and pride they must feel in their son. He has joined a very select band of brothers.
