From Gerry Patterson:
A great man, a great CO and a force to be reckoned with as Cdre RFA.
For my part as a young Sea Cadet in Greenock I met (then) Captain Rutherford in the mid 70’s when we changed our name to TS Gold Rover for his Command RFA Gold Rover. On joining the RFA as a Deck Cadet in 1980 I served under his Command on the Super Sampan (Stromness) and then worked at ESB temporarily as a 3/O during his tenure as CMS prior to him taking the post of Cdre RFA.
